From nose to tail, we will make sure your animal is in good shape. Keeping your pet free of disease, screening for illnesses, and working with you to ensure a healthy lifestyle. Our services include:
-
A wellness exam is a complete physical exam performed by one of our veterinarians to ensure the health of your pet.
Wellness exams are recommended annually for the continuing health of your pet and/or identify any early potential health issues. If any health concerns arise, early detection allows for a proactive treatment approach.
Typically performed prior to vaccinations.
-
Vaccinations play an important role in the preventative care of your pet’s health. There are a variety of vaccine options that offer protection against Distemper, Parvovirus, Rabies, Panleukopenia, Feline Leukemia Virus and more.
We will work with you to decide the best vaccine protocol for your dog or cat’s individual needs.
-
There are two types of parasites that are of concern for your pet: external and internal parasites. External parasites include fleas and ticks. These small creatures can have a detrimental effect on the skin itself, but can also transmit diseases such as lyme disease.
Internal parasites include heartworms, roundworms, hookworms, whipworms and tapeworms. Routine screening for heartworm and intestinal worms play an important role in preventative care for your pet.
Colfax Animal Hospital offers a variety of options for prevention and treatment of internal and external parasites. The doctors and staff will work with you to choose the most appropriate deworming protocol for your pet.
-
Microchips are short range electronic identifications that allow animals to be reunited with their owners, should you be separated. Electronic databases allow the information associated with an animal to be accessed so that you may be contacted if a lost animal is found.
Surgical & Dental Care
Our team of experienced veterinarians uses state-of-the-art equipment and techniques to ensure safe and effective surgical procedures. We offer a range of surgical & dental services, including:
-
Spay (Ovariohysterectomy)
Neuter (Orchiectomy)
Spaying or neutering your pet can help them live a longer, healthier life, minimize behavior problems, and help control unwanted dog and cat litters.
We recommend waiting to spay or neuter your pet until at least 6 months of age. This recommendation may change for larger breed dogs. We require Rabies, the Canine Distemper combo or Feline Distemper combo vaccine for all of our surgical patients to prevent the spread of disease.

During the annual visit, one of our veterinarians will examine your pet’s mouth to check for signs of disease or infection. Routine examinations of the mouth are very important in treating dental disease early and preventing tooth loss.
Dental cleanings for dogs and cats require general anesthesia. While anesthetized, the teeth are cleaned with an ultrasonic scaler, thoroughly examined by a veterinarian for disease, and polished. When warranted, severely diseased teeth will be extracted.
